NICHOLSON IN WRENTHAM 18th Century 10 Inch Yellow Birch Moulding Plane - 111748 - AS OF JUNE 19

$ 465.00
Item #: 111748

A really fine plane with just a wedge finial repair. I cannot tell if it is a Francis or John Nicholson. Francis NICHOLSON (circa 1683-1753) was the earliest documented plane maker in the USA. Working in Wrentham, MA. When he died, he left most of his tools to his plane maker son, John. To his slave, plane maker Cesar CHELOR, he left tools, land, and his freedom. John NICHOLSON, born 1712, worked in Wrentham, Massachusetts and Cumberland, Rhode Island 1733-66. He was the son of Francis NICHOLSON, the first American plane maker.
