The company was formed by George Underhill and John Gage, who used the name NASHUA EDGE TOOL CO. early on. After having bought out the AMOSKEAG AX CO in 1897, it in turn was bought out by AMERICAN AXE & TOOL CO in 1890, who closed the Nashua site but continued to use the logo.
