Closed handles on Spiers planes were an upgrade and are very rare. Clean, extra fine, no issues. Perfect rosewood. Original Spiers 2 1/4 inch parallel iron. Stewart Spiers (b. 1820-d. 1899) perhaps the finest plane maker that ever existed. His planes were not only the best in quality of construction but also aesthetically pleasing. The Spiers firm operated from 1840-1936.
