Screw sided examples are indicative of Spiers’ earliest planes ca. 1840. 7 1/2 inches long. Original 2 1/4 inch Ward parallel iron. Stewart Spiers (b. 1820-d. 1899) perhaps the finest plane maker that ever existed. His planes were not only the best in quality of construction but also aesthetically pleasing. The Spiers firm operated from 1840-1936.
