RARE Emerson Patent Perforated Saw by AMERICAN SAW CO. NY 1867 - EXCALIBUR 115 - AS OF SEPT 9

$ 2,000.00
Item #: EXCALIBUR 115

Extremely rare! Faint etch reads, "Manufactured By AMERICAN SAW CO . NEW YORK WARRANTED SUPERIOR ??? JULY 16TH 1867." 26 INCH BLADE. Fine handle and nib. As usual, these have minor fractures around the perforations and one broken tooth.

The principle of this invention is that below each gullet there is a series of semi-circular holes. When a tooth is sharpened, the gullet is filed down to the next semi-circular hole. The semi-circle defines the bottom of the gullet, avoiding the stress concentration of a sharp gullet. As we now know, the opposite is true as these saws are fragile.
